about

Hi! I'm Camri Hinkie. I'm an experience designer living in Austin with my many cats and one fiancé. I've always loved making things, and seeing the things I create being used by others. I also really like asking questions. Lucky for me, I get to do both every day.

I ask lots of questions and make things.

Hi! I'm Camri Hinkie. I'm an experience design leader living in Austin with my many cats and husband. I've always loved creating things, and seeing the things I create being used by others. I also really like asking questions. Lucky for me, I get to do both every day.

I've worked in digital design since 2008, creating experiences for things like college education tools, shopping sites, and social networks. I am currently at First Dollar, leading the design team in building health & wellness benefits that work for people.

Education

Bachelors in Copy Editing & Design, The University of Texas at Austin    2007 - 2011

Experience

VP of Design, First Dollar    August 2021 - Present

I currently lead the design team at healthcare-meets-fintech startup First Dollar. We are building the future of spending benefits like HSAs, FSAs, and wellness stipends, with a focus on making this corner of financial wellness more accessible to all. I also drive the creative vision for First Dollar brand and marketing. I love working in the startup space and wearing the many (many) hats that entails.

Principle UX Designer, athenahealth    March 2018 - August 2021

Initially I designed tools to help care teams treat high-risk patients with holistic wellness in mind. More recently, I’ve worked on our patient experiences product. This includes a telehealth app, modern test results and vitals tracking, and online appointment management, with a goal to allow patients to be active participants in their care.

I also design and manage the patient-facing design language, Spark, which allows us to work faster with modern, friendly, and accessible components. This work has included guiding the design vision for patient experiences as a whole, and collaborating across the company to make healthcare engagement better for our patients.

UX/UI Designer, Spiceworks    Dec 2015 - March 2018

I contributed to the ideation of new features and products to make IT Pros' lives better, and I worked closely with developers in an Agile environment. I was the principal designer on several major projects, including a new navigation structure to tie together the previously disconnected sections of the Spiceworks site. I also worked on creating a modern design system to give our products a consistent point of view and speed up UI development.

Senior Web Designer, Volusion    June 2011- Dec 2015

I worked in creative services at the eCommerce platform Volusion, where I created brand identities and website designs for a range of clients, from apparel, to hardware, to subscription boxes for horses. I also created several responsive themes for the platform that are still in use today. Over the course of hundreds of design projects, I learned how to accept feedback graciously, work efficiently, and determine what clients actually need when they want to 'make the logo bigger'.

Creative Assistant, Invodo    May - August 2010

I did production work on day-to-day design projects and built brand assets for the Austin-based tech startup. I worked on projects including sales documents, microsites, animations, and elements of the office interior.

Student Technology Assistant, University of Texas Liberal Arts IT Services    August 2008 - May 2011

Along with a team of other students, I created detailed illustrations for each of the Liberal Arts College department web pages, designed online educational tools, and created press graphics for the college. Along the way I learned how to turn creativity into design skills, and (through much trial and error) taught myself front-end development.
